Cargo Cults Unlimited

"Cargo Cults Unlimited" is an exhibition by the Musée d'Ethnographie de Neuchâtel which is centered around the theme of the globalized economy. The exhibition (which runs from Dec. 2023 - Dec. 2024) is set in a makeshift maritime freight port overlooked by offices/control rooms. Each container within the maze-like layout of the exhibition features its own unique installation addressing diverse topics relating to the globalalized economy (production and circulation of goods and services).

My drawing for the "Butins" container (titled “Benin Kingdom to Neuchâtel: a Tale of Power, Crises, and Restitution.“) focuses on the economic aspects of an Ama (plaque) depicting a Portuguese soldier, and highlights the object's journey/transformation, as well as several major crises in human history directly related to its circulation.
